- What is it about Spruce Creek Fly-In that makes it the "World's Finest" anything?
First of all, it is time to
equivocate: Being the "Finest" of anything is a matter of perspective. And, we understand that each person has different needs and resources. For us, Spruce Creek Fly-In is the finest residential
airpark in the world due to its convenient location, its size, its "maturity", its amenities, but most of all, its people.
- Where is Spruce Creek Fly-In?
Spruce Creek is located 7 miles south of Daytona Beach, Florida.
- How do I get there?
Check our "Directions" page for information on how to get here
by air or automobile.
- Why did the airport identifier change?
The FAA, which, of course, has our best interests at heart, mandated the change in
mid 1999. It is part of a major upgrading of the country's airports and airways to conform with ICAO standards. Since we lost the 44J ID, I guess that means somewhere else in the world there is an
airport with the 44J designation.
- Didn’t the area code used to be 904?
Yes, but just like the rest of the country, growth of population and the
increasing popularity of cell phones, pagers and secondary phone lines has made it necessary to add additional area codes. Our area is changing from the old 904 to 386, which spells “FUN” on
your telephone key pad. (Lenny reminds people that it also spells “DUM”.)
- Didn’t the zip code used to be 32124?
Yes, once again, due to the increasing population of the area, a change was
necessary. The United States Postal Service has announced the change effective June 1, 2001. It doesn’t, however, spell anything cool like the area code.
- What is a "Fly-In"?
We define a "Fly-In" as an airpark or airport that offers residential properties
with access to the homes by aircraft. This is not to be confused with a "Fly-In" as meaning a gathering of aircraft and people.

Bridge, Canoeing, Bicycling, Garden club, Jogging & Walking, Or just enjoy the solitude.

- What are the taxes?
Taxes run approximately $21.50 per thousand dollars. The first $25,000 of assessed value may qualify
for Homestead Exemption.

Any property owner in Spruce Creek is
required to be a member of the Spruce Creek Property Owners Association (POA). For each parcel owned, regardless of size, shape, or value, a yearly POA fee shall be due. For 2008, the fee is $1164.00. This pays
for maintenance of the roadways, taxiways, runway, and common area, as well as security and insurance.

Spruce Creek is a gated community with full time security at the gates and with roving
patrols.

He is a fine actor, excellent pilot and a nice guy. He does not, however, live at Spruce Creek
since he sold his house several years ago.
- How far is it to the beach?
Less than fifteen minutes (Seven miles as the crow flies).
- Tell me about the golf course?
It is green and grassy and has holes in it. All seriousness aside, it is a good course that
is challenging but not daunting. One of the local magazines published an article on the course. A reprint can be found on our Download page.
- Is there an instrument approach to Spruce Creek?
Yes, there is a private GPS approach for the use of those Spruce Creek
residents and their planes that are properly qualified.
- Are the local schools any good?
The local schools are excellent. Several local schools have been named several times as top
schools in the country. Sweetwater Elementary is “A” rated by the State of Florida and has won numerous awards on both state and national levels. Creekside Middle School, just outside the back gate
of Spruce Creek, is brand new and opened in August, 2001. Spruce Creek High School boast the International Baccalaureate program which allows students to graduate from high school with as much as a full year of
college credit.
- Does this dress make me look fat?
No, dear.
- Is Spruce Creek a retirement community?
No. This is not "God's waiting room." Seriously, the demographics of
Spruce Creek portray the community as one with an average age lower than Florida's average age. There are many young families with children. Of course, all of these children are above average.
- What if I don't like airplane noise?
There is no such thing. The sounds that airplanes make is music to the ears of
Spruce Creek residents. Seriously, Spruce Creek is an airport community. Any person considering a purchase or lease of a property at Spruce Creek should be aware of the airport, the airplanes, the air-traffic,
the sounds of the aircraft, and the activities associated with aircraft as well as their impact on living at Spruce Creek and their impact on property use and value. This is, was, and will be a Fly-In community.
- When did Spruce Creek start?
Spruce Creek, as a residential airpark, was conceived in the late sixties. The runway was part
of a practice field built during World War II. No aircraft or personnel were ever based here. Construction on the community began in the mid seventies. More information can be found on our History page.

No, it is not a place to park cabs. It is the "roadway" designated for aircraft ground
movements.

line parcel, or if the section of Spruce Creek has an additional Owners Association, there will also be dues, usually payable monthly, to that Association. There are no landing fees.
- What is the capital of South Dakota?
Pierre.

The weather here is great. While it does get hot during the summer, being close
to the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf Stream tempers the climate. More information is available at the Weather Channels web site.
- Is there a Flying Club at Spruce Creek?
Yes, there is a social flying club with over 300 member families. The Flying Club
sponsors many community events including the Christmas Parade. We call it the Toy Parade.
- Who owns the airport? Who controls the airport?
The owners of property at Spruce Creek, through the Property Owners
Association, own, control, and maintain the airport.
- If I don't have a hangar, is there somewhere else I can keep my airplane?
In addition to tie downs (available for a very
reasonable fee from the POA or the FBO) there are rental hangars as well as the occasional private hangar available for rent. Occasionally, one of the condominium hangars will come on the market.
